Christmas 2021

All our shows are free to attend and no booking is required

We are delighted to announce that Fletchers Solicitors kindly agreed to sponsor our Christmas Lightshow for 2021!

Their generous sponsorship meant that we could confidently plan for the Christmas shows with all the freebies, sweets and hot chocolate we needed. The show has grown over the years to be a part of so many family's Christmas celebrations and it's fantastic that a prominent local company which is such a big part of Southport's economy had agreed to join us. Thank to their help we handed out 400 santa hats, made up 8kg of Galaxy hot chocolate and fed our spectators 63 tubs of Quality street chocolates!

Alex Hatchman, CEO of Fletchers commented 'Fletchers Solicitors is delighted to be supporting this year’s Sidney Road Christmas Lights! The lights have become a firm date in the calendar for Southport residents over the last few years and they bring joy to so many. We particularly love the community aspect of it, which is so important at this time. As well as making people smile, it also raises hundreds of pounds for Freshfields Animal Rescue so we are proud to be this year’s sponsor.

Having missed Christmas 2020 (I'm sure you can work out why) we'd built many extra props which hadn't been used, these included a 3.5m high model of the leaning tower of Pisa, a matrix panel on our garden wall and an 8m long matrix panel running alongside our drive. Also new for 2021 were lights along the gutters and a 'Grand Illusion' mounted on the pike which alone has 1000 pixels. Further props for 2021 include high density panels (p5) similar to those used at sports stadia (ours are much smaller). Without counting exactly there were around 30,000 lights.

Over 20 brand new sequences were ready for Christmas 2020 and there were even more for 2021 allowing us to have themed nights such as movie songs, Disney compilations along with classic rock from Queen, Styx, The Weeknd, Madness etc.

The Christmas shows started at 6pm on Saturday 11th December with a record attendance - Sandgrounder Radio our local Southport radio station hosted the event for the third year running. Following their tremendous contribution last time Starkidz Christmas Elves joined us for our Lighting Up Party along with the superb Southport Costume Crew these guys are truly incredible entertainers, we're so pleased to have them perform for us after being such a hit at Halloween. The lovely family who own Chocolate Whirled came along to hand out some artisan chocolate lollies which were enjoyed by all, they also generously donated a gift voucher which was raffled and won by Alfie.

We continued our support for Freshfields Animal Rescue, back in 2019 we raised almost £1600 this year the target is £2000....and I'm pleased to say the total is in....£2060! Thanks to you all for your generousity, for the person who pushed a large cheque into our collecting box and the lady who pushed a donation through our letterbox after the shows had finished it all adds up to keep Freshfields door open for the homeless animals.
